How do you ween yourself off methadone if you are addicted and almost died.?
My dad has been addicted to methadone for 15 years quietly. Recently he almost died with heart arrhythmia, loss of breath, stroke symptoms. The doctor is prescribing him Oxycontin 60mg ER and 10 IR. This seems a lot more dangerous than methadone. What are some solutions or ideas to help him ween off methadone. If he stops taking it cold turkey then he will have a heart attack and if he takes it again he will have a heart attack.

This is a pretty complicated situation that requires a cardiologist. The oxycontin is only a stop gap measure but it does seems like its a step backwards. The arrythmia can probably be managed with medications such as beta blockers, or maybe an implantable defibrillator.
