Is chicken and turkey the same thing?

Why do they have two named for it?

Chickens and turkeys are two totally different types of bird / animal.

    Turkeys are also much larger.

It is like comparing sheep and goat.

Because their not the same thing obviously. They don't TASTE the same either.

They are different animals. There is a clear difference in the meat, also. Turkey dark meat is much darker than that of a chicken and for me, anyway, there is a distinct difference in flavor of the breast meat.

No. Chicken and tuna (aka “chicken of the sea”) are the same thing.

    Those are two different animals.

Of course not.  Why else do they have different names?  They're both edible birds, that's all/

They are two 'different' birds entirely.

    Both are poultry.

They can be cooked in much the same way.

Both are often over cooked and turn out dry, particularly the breast meat.

That is as far as the similarity goes. They are not the same animal.
