If a rich American paid Ukraine's govt to investigate the Biden's, would it be a crime? Assume something egregious turns up. Then? ?

Yes. It’s illegal in Ukraine to pay off a government official.

No. That's why people hire private investigators. They don't investigate people for free.

If a rich American paid Ukraine's govt to investigate and they didn't, nothing would happen. Even if they did an investigation it would show nothing. The Ukraine already said nothing was done wrong by the Bidens. Hunter Biden was not under any investigation by the corrupt prosecutor.

    note

The president of the United States demanding, extorting a vulnerable country to do his political bidding, to go after his opponent, has nothing to do with Joe Biden executing the foreign policy of the United States.

The big point: On top of the international support for what he did, Biden was representing the views of the U.S. government and its foreign policy analysts.

The actions of Trump and Biden, are not the same. Biden threatened to withhold aid unless Ukraine fired a prosecutor who was widely viewed as corrupt — in line with U.S. and international policy. Trump, by contrast, temporarily froze aid and then asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Biden, his potential 2020 political rival.

Understand that Trump was not wrong to want an investigation conducted, as it's obvious enough that there may have been something shifty going on.  The trouble is that he was holding funds hostage and calling specifically for information on these two people rather than all parties involved.

Had Trump of never of messed with the money and simply requested an investigation into the company, then today the Democrats would have diddly.

Bidens, not Biden's. It's simply plural, not possessive. Learn basic grammar so you don't look so stupid and illiterate. It's okay for a rich American who's not running for reelection, not okay for a sitting president who is.
