Robert Frost, “A Passing Glimpse”

What are examples of word play in these poems by Frost? To what use is it put?

Read these four poems aloud. Then look carefully at the rhyme scheme of each. Look until you see similarities and differences. What does each rhyme scheme achieve? What’s different in “Looking for a Sunset Bird ” from “Passing Glimpse.”

Three verbs in “Nothing Gold Can Stay”: subsides, sank, goes down. Make sure that you know the definitions, then write about the lines in which they appear. What is the gold in each?

Discuss volition in “Spring Pools,” “On a Tree Fallen Across the Road” and

“A Passing Glimpse.”

Imagine that “(To hear us talk)” is not a part of “On a Tree Fallen Across the Road.” How does that change the meaning of the poem?
