Not a JW but are they any more controlling than other groups in christendom who have been labelled "mind" controlling cults or sects?
- The exclusive Brethren
- The church of Christ/ Boston crossroads movement.
- Various hyper-charismatic churches.
- Traditional Seventh day adventists.
There are dozens more you could research if you are interested in church leaderships controlling there members spiritual and private lives.
btw- if the JWs are a big problem with mind control techniques then why does the mainstream media NOT report this on a regular basis.
In recent year there have been all sorts of tv docus on mind controlling /abuse allegations on groups like scientology, mormons, catholic clergy etc, yet the JWs/watchtower never seem to be mentioned as far as I know.

They only control the lives of people who want to retain membership within their kingdom halls. Of course, they're extreme. But on the flip side, most Christian churches in the US today rarely kick out anyone.

Yes I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
No it's not a cult.
Yes it was my choice.
No I don't find it restrictive.
I'm the happiest I've ever been as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

That's typical cult behavior. Every cult wants to control nearly every aspect of their members' lives.
