Is that old battle-ax Camilla going to be Queen even though the public was told a few years ago that she would only ever be Princess Consort?
Why did the palace announce that she would be Princess Consort instead of Queen...and now they say she WILL be Queen? Why was the public tricked like this?

I don't think the Palace ever said anything about it; one way or the other. "Princess Consort" was something the media came up with, and ran with.

By law the wife of the King is the Queen Consort nobody has been tricked.

The statement given about the titles she will go by while wife of the heir and later as wife of the monarch didn’t come from 'the palace'. They came from Highgrove and were never official.

The public were tricked because they wanted to be tricked.
Because Camilla is unpopular, the Royal family have taken baby steps to introduce her. First we were told that Charles and Diana would separate but never divorce. Then they divorced. Then we were told that Charles would hang out with Camilla but not marry. Then they married. Then we were told that Camilla would use a lesser title than she was entitled (Duchess of Cornwall). Then we were told she would not be queen, but instead be some sort of Princess Consort. But wise people knew all along that the wife of a king is a queen. We learned this at school.

Nine years ago, Charles gave an interview where he said that there was no reason that Camilla might not be Queen Consort.
There were some problems when Camilla made that first announcement about wanting to be Princess Consort. Royal titles and styles of the United Kingdom, experts pointed out, did not include such a title. Experts also pointed out the obvious-- that Camilla wanted Diana-fans to know that she was not trying to take Diana's place, being acutely aware that this was impossible.
There are different types of Queen:
Queen Regnant is the hereditary monarch with powers to reign.
Queen Consort is the wife of the reigning king and she does not have hereditary powers to reign.
Queen Dowager/ Queen Mother is the widow of the deceased king and if she had children, the mother of the current monarch,(Queen Mother).
Camilla would be a Queen Consort, the supporting wife of the reigning king.

We were not tricked at all, the moment charles is king she is queen, whatever anyone says, that is her title.

I don't remember there being an official announcement about this (Princess Consort). In any case even if she is known as that publically, as the wife of the King, IF Charles comes to the Throne after his mother dies, she would be the Queen Consort.
She won't be Queen, and the public have not been 'tricked' into anything.

Camilla is expected to be queen in due course. Titles are granted by the monarch and that will be up to the new king. Anything else is speculation.

From what I remember it was only the news speculating that she would use Princess consort.

The primary meaning of the word "queen" is "wife of a king". When Charles is King, his wife will be Queen. Every wife of every King of England/Great Britain has had the title "Queen" since Edmund I (King from 939-946). As well as meaning "wife of a king", the title "Queen" is also given to ruling Queens, Queens regnant, of which there have been six plus two disputed.
We have had the current ruling Queen for 67 years so most people have never experienced life with a King and a Queen, the last were King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. On the death of the King, his Queen was given the title Queen Mother as the normal title Queen Dowager was already held by Queen Mary, the wife of George V.
There is no precedent in over a thousand years for the wife of the King to have any title other than Queen so Camilla will be Queen. If tradition is followed, she will be crowned Queen at the coronation of the King after he has been crowned.
