Youve got to stop the other team from scoring. At least a bit. Not much else offense from your teammates will cause a loss, too. Most teams average at least 100 points a game. 50 is only half way there.

50 points isn't going to be enough to win 99.999% of NBA games.

And even so what happens on the defensive end is just as important. Also, how many chances are you giving the opponent with missed shots, rebounds, turnovers etc. ?

A few reasons could be the player that scored 50 + points could have teammates that suck with no or little support

or a lack of team defense and the other team outscored  them

or a player from the other team scored 60 + points with better team defense

short answer basketball is a team sport everyone has a role to win

Offense is part of the game, but you gotta play defense too

Defense is important too. You can't forgot the value of rebounds and assists. A triple double can be even better than 50 points

Because basketball is a team sport and if only one person is getting good points, the team will still lose.
