Philosophy means the love of wisdom. Everyone needs it.

Perhaps it it not who and why but must.   In the end it is a mean to better ourselves and  whole society

  • Anyone who attempts to create a complete viewpoint of the universe and their existence within it. Why they do it? It is because they care. Simple as.

Not sure who of which school-of-philosophy you are asking about but

    here goes jose.

Quite a number of answerers here are either subjective-philosophy

    enthusiasts or relative philosophy types.

Either way they make mistake after mistake within philosophy....

and so choose to mainly steer clear of more "pure philosophy" questions

& answers & stick with technical or science answers.

Not "pure science" or technical answers mind you, these are not usually

found in this category as one might expect.

What generally happens is if an answerer wants to hide the fact of

answering here by, for example, looking up a standard answer in Wikipedia

and so not giving the more exact reason why they do usually answer

Not naming names but one such does philosophy because of a (correct)

Christian faith-based belief... yet because their faith does not allow

BELIEF CRITICISM the philosophy teaching is naïve & below par

    as it were.^

And this can be expanded too... other contributors either believe too

much in SCIENCE & others believe too much in a spiritual, more

mystical side-of-philosophy & where they show this in their rather

"flowery" & overblown commitment to the WORDS they use rather

than the arguments that they use (or misuse).

^ I  call it "childish" too... & have described it previously as philosophy

that we ALL ordinarily DO IN OUR CHILDHOOD (I was there talking

about the specific difference of philosophy in the ENVIRONMENT when

       describing such-below-par, subjective type answers.

People get glimpses of Truth, or Reality, and then try to relate it through words and their intellect.

There are basically two groups, and you can easily pick them out amongst the regulars here.

The first group are the natural philosophers who create their own opinions and question everything, they live philosophy. They are the thinkers of original thoughts and lovers of wisdom. This is where philosophy originated all around the world and where science was founded.

The second group are the academics, the historians of philosophy and studiers of knowledge. They study the ideas of others and base their model of philosophy on examples which they judge appropriate to their own work. They can have a range of motives.

Both groups in their own way seek to maximise their self actualisation, in other words achieve enlightenment

Often philosophy is the result of idle thinking.

Philosophy is done by philosophers.  They do it to understand why we do things.  A philosophizer, on the other hand just likes to come up with what they think are clever sounding sayings.  Maybe they're right.

Some people think more often than others, and some people think more deeply than others, but I think virtually everyone thinks about philosophical questions. They do it because it's human nature to do so. Philosophy is just people trying to figure out the fundamental questions of life: what's really going on, and what's the best way to deal with it.

we all do philosophy, because to question things is the nature of humanity.
