Is Japan more popular than China in the US?

Yes. The reason is because during the Cold War, China isolated itself from the outside world. Between 1949 and 1975 no people or culture could go in or out of China.
For the outside world, it was as though China didn't exist. When China opened her borders culture flooded in from the west and from other parts of Asia.
But it was a one exchange. Hundreds of years ago China had some of the best culture in the world. They influenced the rest of Asia.
But communism stifles culture. In the cultural vaccuum culture flowed in to China but there was nothing to flow out.
Japan continued to produce culture even after their economy crashed. That is why they're popular in the US.

Japan's government is very, very, submissive to the US and even destroyed their economy for a generation, when George I Bush ordered them too. Americans like that. China is not submissive ans is prospering. Americans hate that.
