I haven't programmed in a long time, what language should I learn for Flash games?

Maybe a bit longish...

I have been having ideas for Flash Games I could put up on the Internet (or some similar format).

I do know how to program, but I haven't in a long time. Last time I programmed, it was in Basic. So I have been out of the loop for some decades.

I understand subroutines, variables, have good math skills, logical flowcharts, etc... I can still make computers do stuff… like math experiments, little games, so forth… but in Basic.

I obviously need to update my skills if I'm going to do something workable.

Any suggestions as to which language I should consider?

Also, if I can use a keyboard for entering command lines, I'd be more comfortable with something old-fashioned like that.

Poor graphic power not a problem.

If this is something you want to share on the web, consider that Adobe's Flash Player has been on the chopping block since 2017 and support both from Adobe and the "Major Browsers" is going away "by the end of 2020".

If you're looking to the future, use JavaScript and HTML5 for web games.  Maybe not directly, though.  There are libraries you can use to add extra graphics  support; or alternate languages you can use that "compile" to JavaScript.

There's an article here that might give you some ideas:

The info on Elm there looks interesting, but the sample links don't work.  Try this for a look at a simple Mario animiation:

One way to explore JS coding and graphics is to work through the Khan Academy videos.  These start assuming no prior coding experience, so they might be a bit elementary for you, but you should move quickly into the more intermediate material.

Flash is going away very soon. Reason? It has security holes. However, in direct response, Flash Games are programmed in Flash.
