If car dealers have the same name, are they owned by the owner?

For example, there is the Norm Reeves Honda name but there are dealers named Norm Reeves Honda Irvine, Norm Reeves Honda Cerritos, Norm Reeves Honda Huntington Beach, Norm Reeves Honda West Covina.

Then there are the Norm Reeves Volkswagen, Norm Reeves Ford, etc. Because they all have "Norm Reeves" in their name, are they owned by the same owner?

Probably not. Due to tax regulations, these dealerships are part of a corporation started by Reeves but operate with a varied assortment of people on the board of directors.

Normally they would be all under common ownership, but there are situations where a broker may have different partners or investors involved in some of the dealers.

You're very perceptive. My guess is Norm Reeves owns them all.
