Intercourse doesn't "cause" HIV infection. Intercourse can potentially transmit the virus from an infected partner to a non-infected one. But it's unlikely from ordinary " vanilla" sex. (And surely you used a condom if this was a new partner of unknown status. (Or known to be infected.)

HIV infection usually has no symtoms. Some people may experience mild flu-like symptoms days or weeks after exposure.

It can only cause HIV if a person has sex with someone who tests positive for AIDS or HIV.

Having unprotected intercourse with some one infected with HIV can cause HIV. either once or many times with someone who is infected is the same thing.

Having unprotected sex just one time with someone who is infected with HIV can cause you to be infected with the virus. If you have reason to suspect that you may have been exposed you should be tested at your local health department. It is urgent that you always use a condom for protection against HIV and other STD's.
