Isn’t affirmative action a violation of the civil rights act?

Since it discriminates on the basis of race.

It is. Unfortunately many politicians do not see it that way. They fail to recognize the difference between striving to create equal opportunity vs forcing equal results regardless of the effort made by the individual. Affirmative action will likely be a policy we look back on in 50 years in disgust for promoting racism in society.

What many don't think about is that jobs and academic seats are limited and for every less qualified applicant who is selected based on their race, a more qualified majority race candidate is denied based on the color of their skin. While we certainly need to do more to encourage equal opportunity, pushing for equal results leads to racism.

While many years ago minorities were denied these spots based on their race, the problem has now shifted to the opposite extreme. It is time to let EVERYONE be selected based solely on their qualifications.

Affirmative Action is ALREADY 50 years old. Good to know youre predicting another 50 years of inaction. Also, AA isnt just about race. Ask the LGBT and woman, who can be white.

You want to get rid of it so you can be free to discriminate and have no disadvantages as a white male.  Anti discrimination laws are a natural evolutionary reaction to racism and discrimination and white males are the primary drivers of racism and discrimination in America, therefore the primary targets of anti discrimination laws. Non racist white males have very little problem negotiating this and knowing how to work with it and understand it and even thrive. Despite the anti discrimination laws white males still hold the majority of wealth and power so I really dont see the problem. I think its just that some white people suck at being white and like to complain.

Some races are more equal than others.  By giving them special treatment, liberals are admitting that those races really are inferior.  Liberals should be ashamed of themselves.

The playing field was never the same for African Americans education, banking..(red lining),higher education, life insurance, health insurance, salaries, housing, owned or  run  by the whites. You need to know American history because opinions mean nothing just FACTS genius.

Don't be daft. There wouldn't be a need for affirmative action if there weren't already discrimination.

Yes. But when experience is a result of having worked, and education is a result of being accepted to a college, and you are discriminated against getting work or education because of the color of your skin, or your religion, or what have you, then you don't get those job offers.

The intention of affirmative action is to enable those who have been disabled.

Unfortunately,  we cannot yet create an equitable quantification of deservedness.

It's quite funny how it makes entitled white people squirm!

Hillary believed she had established why she achieved deservedness. She called Blacks "super predators" and convinced women of color that Black men should be either in bed or jail...but not in her place with his kids.

Yes, but non discrimination policy typically isn’t enforced when it’s women or minorities that are advantaged.

As blatant of a violation as they come.
