The Fuzz Buster. Israel took them, changed the frequency and used them as low cost radar detectors to pick up incoming missiles in their jets. Ultra Light aircraft. The USAF took some over in Germany and use them to over fly the runway looking for damage with the idea they would not set off delayed fuse bomblets. A Palestinian used one to land inside an Israeli base and started firing. The Israeli troops thought the attack was coming from outside. Dune buggies. The military was stuck on Jeeps until a guy made a dune buggy out of an old VW and won the Baja race. The military then started using a similar vehicle for a small, light weight recon vehicle. However the best is percussion caps. Invented by a minister, quickly accepted by civilians and then the military. For that matter, cartridge lever action rifles. The US Army was still issuing a single shot, muzzle loading rifle during the Civil War but a lot of troops bought their own Henry rifles. When Custer fought the Indians at the Little Big Horn, the US Army was using the single shot, cartridge loading 1873 rifle, while the Indians had a bunch of lever action Winchesters and the like. Custer lost big time.

    The airplane.

Before that, the hot air balloon.

    The radio.

Boats.  Ok, I'm not 100% sure on that one since they've been around for thousands of years, but I'm guessing that the first use was for fishing or getting people and cargo across a body of water and not for a military purpose.

The internal combustion engine and before that, the steam engine.
