why can't the US join the European Union?

I don't think even if it could it would want to.

Lets just say for one hypothetical minute that the US was wanting to do that?
Everything from food standards and safety to workers rights and working time directives would have to come up to scratch, because we are way below those in the EU!
That’s why the idiots in the U.K. who voted to leave are akin to Turkeys voting for Christmas! Brexit is a ploy by the billionaires to take control of the country, to deregulate the rights and laws that protect working people and feed them with any old sh!t!
The Mercer group actually gave the leave campaign free use of Cambridge analytica in order to sway the vote anyway they could!!!

Simple Answer: because the US is not part of Europe. Do you see any Asian countries that are members of the European Union

Because the US isn't in Europe.
Come on, man.

For some reason a lot of people in europe feel that the EU should be european-only.
I wouldn't mind Canada joining the EU myself, but I would object to several parts of TTIP and CETA
and maybe the US wouldn't be able to fulfill the human-rights conditions

We don't want to.

Because we are a separate free country and
Not part of the corrupt totalitarian socialist
Barbaric oppressive tyrant system. We are
New and improved and they are Stone Age
Idiots with no freedom.

We're not part of Europe, and it doesn't seem like something I'd want to join.
