Some "Christians" believe you recv the Holy Ghost w/water baptism. John had authority(Jn 1:33).Why didn't they recv Holy Spirit w/his?

1 - John the Baptist was not a Christian per se. He was not a devoted follower of Jesus. He had his own, separate ministry.
2 - John the Baptist baptized with the baptism of John, not the baptism that Jesus instructed his apostles. We see this is an important difference in Acts.

In Acts chapter 8, some believers had been baptized but had not received the Holy Ghost. In Acts 10, Cornelius received the Holy Ghost before being baptized.

He did receive the Holy Spirit in His baptism, which enabled him to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit later, in his Confirmation.
