my french turns always burns. I use challah bread. is challah bread the wrong kind of bread?

i use one tablespoon of butter on medium heat. Usually im frying the whole loaf of bread. I notice its burned on the outside and mushy on the inside

    Not using nearly enough butter for a whole loaf of bread! It would be a tablespoon each for 1-2 slices.

    French Toast?

    Use oil & butter together, to save the butter from burning, Dont fry the whole loaf at once, otherwise it will be mushy on the inside.

    A slice or two fried at a time, will give you better results.

    Did you mean FRENCH TOAST??  Possible solutions, lower the heat, add some vegetable oil to the pan,
