Bad contacts in the electrical portion of the ignition switch would be my educated guess. The item is fairly inexpensive and just bolts to the ignition switch.

watch a youtube video for your year make and model vehicle for replacing the ignition switch electrical contact switch to see how easy it is to do it yourself. Advance Auto will get one for you if not in stock.

Make sure the battery isn't bad and that the cable clamp contact area and the battery posts are clean

If you mean that it doesn't turn over at all for 2-3 seconds, then suddenly starts, high resistance at the battery terminals is a common cause. CLEAN AND TIGHTEN THEM. Also get your battery properly load tested. It may be nearing replacement time.
