Can a DVD RW disk deliberately or accidentally be converted to a Read Only disk? If so, can it/they be recovered?

That's a physical characteristic of the disc. You can't change it.

Hi. What You did was actually just "Close the disc" ... This means that the disc is not going to be getting anything else added to it, so make it readable by all drives & players.

Your DVD burning software should also recognize that it's an RW disc type, & offer You the option to "erase (R)e(W)ritable disc".

If it doesn't, You can get the free burning software called ImgBurn that does handle these discs well, & is a very handy software for every disc burning function available.

yes you can deliberately do it, but you cannot accidentally do it. To deliberately force it to read only, you must remove all burning features in windows. And to fix it you just re-enable your burning software in windows.
