What vegetables, if any, can I plant in the fall and harvest in the early spring?

    Depends on your hardiness zone, but go for leafy greens (use polytunnels if you get heavy snow), onions, garlic, broccoli and cauliflower, carrots, asparagus and artichokes can all be planted direct.

    You can also grow salad greens from seeds if you like, but use shelter such as plastic covering, hot box or greenhouse if you expect snow.

    As for non edibles, you can start planting most bulb annuals (daffodils, tulips etc) so that they get a good rooting before the first frost. Ideally plant them 6-8 weeks before the first hard frost or freeze.

    Garlic...though they are not a spring plant as they need to START IN the fall go through the winter and by next fall you will harvest them as clove bulbs.  Parsley grows all winter.  It is a permanent plant.  Ask at your local garden supply store.  They know what works in your region...rather than asking the WORLD.   Maybe marijuana, maybe Opium, maybe coffee. 

    It depends on where you live.  This is not just the U.S.

    as people are on here from Britain, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Venezuela.

    Kale, collards, root vegetables like carrots and onions...

    Depends on your geography/climate.      Big difference between Hawaii and Minnesota.

    Hardly any. Too cold. Maybe in Florida something like cabbage or green onions.
