    What does it actually mean? "Elite" refers to some sort of classification as "superior". It is primarily used in general speech to mean "select few by economic criteria": the rich and/or the privileged. They are not superior in any real way, but they have money or power and use it to gain privileges that are not available to the average person. They have advantages not available to most people.

    When talking schools, it means private schools that only the rich can attend (plus a few token minorities, perhaps).

    A group of students who believe themselves to be superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of the students.
