Would you get in trouble for this and how can it be prevented?

Say you see someone struggling in a deep lake, you throw them a life ring but it whacks him on the head, he goes unconscious and then drowns.

Most countries have good samaritan laws in place that prevents you from being held accountable for attempting to help someone in mortal danger.

Life rings are very light & buoyant, they wouldn't have the ability to knock someone unconscious,or injure someone

Yeah I know, I was just being silly really. I'd really not spoil their fun and just walk past, they are having a whale of a time splashing about.

Maybe you should've jumped into the life ring and then, gone out to save them, but these things seem to happen so fast.

A life ring is not going to knock someone unconscious.
