Doesn't the fact that communism transformed Russia from an agrarian society into a space age super power disprove conservatives notion......?

That it doesn't work? When I say communism I'm really referring to socialism

Most of the engineers were killed along with experienced military leadership. The USSR became very labor intensive and did not advance.

So I have to disagree just based on that observation.

Secondly most of it's advances in technology were the result of reverse engineering or from scientists and engineers taken from the Germans.

Lastly the USSR failed in the space race and lagged behind the theistic nation until after the USSR failed and it atheism theology was abandoned. It was only after freedom of religion was re-established that the former USSR advanced faster then the nations which were adopting atheism.

The major flaw in communism is its denial of a higher authority then government.

Communism did pull Russia up out of the mud. And getting rid of the old establishment that would have interfered with the new establishment was one way of doing it.

Ronald Reagan was able to take them down in one swoop when he targeted their natural gas industry and they completely collapsed and have never been able to get back up on their feet in any meaningful way. That doesn't sound like much of a super power with a strong economy to me.

If Russia was able to reach for the stars through Communism, just think what the US will be able to do if we adopted Communism.

If it worked so well, why did it ultimately collapse? Just as Venezuelan Socialism is about too?

I wish people with ideas like yours could actually live in a communist state for a year. You are clueless to the realities of life under a communist regime, regardless of how rich the government itself is.

Umm.....actually the Cold War sorta did that. They were never as far along as anyone thought though. And now they are poor.

  • No but that the fact that there was mass starvation, mass killings, and the whole thing collapsed on itself does

oh and by the way, any technology the USSR had they stole from us
