There was no "curse of the Bambino".  This phrase was invented in 1990 or 1991 by some Boston sportswriter to make the Red Sox drought similar to the Chicago Cubs "billy goat curse", and made popular by ESPN.  Whereas the owner of Billy Goat's tavern in Chicago actually did curse the Cubs when he wasn't allowed to bring his goat into Wrigley Field, Babe Ruth, or no one else, cursed the Red Sox for the trade.

    • As a Boston fan I can tell you it was a curse long before 1990. Heartbreak in 1946, 1967, 1975 and 1986. Always coming in behind the much hated Yankees. That's what made 2004 sooooooo freakin' sweet.

  • Greatest sports comeback in history!

And it was against the much hates Yankees!

The Yankees will forever carry the title as the greatest choke artists in sports.
