My hamsters are lesbian?
Do hamsters not know their own gender? Poof (white hamster) I feel like poof doesn’t know what gender is.. she attempted to do dirty thingys to my other hamster (Bambi) and then wanted to take a turn being the submissive.. Bambi obviously rejected this request, but it’s weird.. are they lesbian? Do they know know each other’s genders?

I'm very confident that one is either a male, or they are asserting their dominance over each other. Syrians are solitary, and need 80x50cm of space each (a 40 gallon breeder tank for each of them). They need an 11" wheel with at least 6" of burrowing room.
they need to be prevented from getting into each other's cage. They are SOLITARY, they will KILL each other if they are both females. If one happens to be a male, then you better prepare to call a shelter and ask for help with up to 12 pups (baby hamsters) who will all need their own cage at 8 weeks old.

You may have their gender wrong. You can post pictures and I'll let you know, or you can take them into a vet. If one is male, you're probably going to have baby hamsters.
Regardless. Those are Syrian hamsters. They are solitary by nature and WILL FIGHT eventually. Seriously you're going to wake up to a dead hamster one morning. Separate them TODAY.

my estranged friend’s hamsters are brother and sister and they act like that, so I think you’re fine they probably are.Source(s): my friends pets

Read up on animal behavior please. I'm so wmsxrf on the number of people that at the drop of a hat will run out and get so,e type of pet and with complete ignorance they try and keep it in the wrong environment, feed it the wrong type of foods, wrong kind of environmental stimulating and then when we catch out pets doing natural behaviors they would be doing in the wild we then it our fears and anxietys onto the pets, call their natural behaviors wrong, shameful, deviant, and greedy.
We are taught as hildren what's erong and right in HUMAN BEHAVIORS beaause we live as a group of people, have laws if what's wrong and right, with that comes appropriste behaviors. When we come across something different in human behavior we turn away in disgust, we either banish or blame people for being different and we get upset if they don't adhere to the normal acceptable behaviors we are taught when we are young. For wild example, people that don't want to be around others live a solitary life, they don't live amongst a group in a neighborhood, they don't have close friends or family, ily tire, and we all them strange and hermits.
Some animals by nsture are solitary animals, they only seek other ompany when it's breeding time, other than that they live alone and fend for themselves. In nature we don't think of this as strange, unusual or stupid. Look at horses for instance, they had a dominant heard male that's only allowed to breed with his haram if mated, he defends the heard from predators and other stallions that think they are stronger and they will defend their band until death or near death. Horses will seek out other horses and will naturally bind togeather for comfort, to be social and from instinct - the more horses gathered the higher survival rate from predators. Just because we domticste them the instinct next leaves. When a horde had no other to be with, they turn to us as leaders and companions, not because they lie us but it's instinctual.
Your hamsters are doing just the thing instinct and nsure have given them. The "dirty thingys" your hamsters are doing isn't sexual, isn't a lesbian act of desperation and is not deviant. Most hamsters once they are raised in the wild will go off by themselves and find their own way, seek out a mate when breeding time is there and reproduce. They carry on natures cycle over and over again. Females will have litters again and again until they are too old, they will eventially bevome eomeones cinner because they slow done in old age and it gives the predator a better chance of catching them. Others starve in dinner while some die from injury or illness. Survival rate in the wild for any rodentient will tthwt great,Moët wre killed off by two years of age, the smarter and faster ones may slice up to three or maybe for years. In captivity where there temperature control, sample ample food and water etc their survival rate can double or even triple vs the wild counterpart.
The sexual act you instit is lesbian and deviant, if you had the smarts enough to find this website to post your fears and disgust over your pets natural behaviors you should have been smart enough to look up why your pets do this in the first place. The shderrr is dimple, two mslre thet hump each other are shoeing dominance, they usually scrap around and fight first then the einner will 'hump' the looser to shoe for sure he has won the fight, no arguments about it he's the winner. This does not make him sick, bad, naughty, deirnt, gay or bisecusl, he is doing what is programmed by instinct and cannot control his anger any more than you an control hoe long your going to live.
When two females get togeather it's not natural for them to live as a pair or pack of msny as they have them crammed togeather in the pet store. Do you honestly think they will set up a single cage for each one, feed them sepretly, Esther them sepretly or do you think to save time, labor, space and money they just cram them in a small area and whomever doesn't get chewed up or doe from being the lowest in the new bunch will eventially be sold as food for another pet or a pet like you have. The pet shop did not convert the males into a him-she gay band neither did they make the females convert to she-males or lesbians. It would be sad for them to be displayed in little indivudal containers so they didn't breed or fight and have them set out like the bets fish males. Could you imagine a whole shelf with 6" by 4" containers with a hamster in each? The stores ad vantage of putting them all togeather is that people don't want hundreds of pets but they feel bad for only nursing one pet so they end up buying two of the same sex to endure no babies. This doesn't work well since most rodents are solitaire animals, they. Do squabble and fight from time to time, especially when a new item is dropped into their dmdlk territory even it food or a favorite toy, new bedding or a new house. The dominant pet gets to choose what they sent first and the submissive pet chooses what's left over.
Please stay in school, learn to spell better and don't assume that your pets are guy she lesbian automatically because they deviate from normal human behavior. As a civilized group us humans don't have to beat each other up to shoe dominance, to show who is stronger and smarter. Could you see the presidential election going to the strongest msn who can beat up any challenger, and should someone beat him, the presidency automatically goes to the new winner? Since we have spoken languqge and rules that don't go by our instincts etc we decide things in a civilized way and lol peoples should abide by the rules.
Rodents don't communicate via a direct languqge, they have no vocal cords nor. Do they have higher brain function and plan colonies, rules who runs it and then the outcasts are sold off as pet. That idea sounds silly to us because we know they are a life form but run in their instincts. We try and take care of them and keep them in our home as our pets, our responsibilities to provide for and care for. We cannot expect them to have human rules even though they live in our homes, we can expect them to let us care for them and to provide for them.

If those are Syrian hamsters, they should not be kept in the same cage.
One of them is going to die if you do. Syrian hamsters are naturally solitary creatures.
Yes - they know each other's genders, but that action is nothing to do with sex. It's about dominance. Poof is telling Bambi that she's in charge and if you don't put them in separate cages, she's going to kill Bambi. Hamsters can tear each other apart if they're kept together. It would be REALLY nasty.
You really need to educate yourself about how to care for them - this is very basic stuff.
I also hope that you have a big enough enclosure for each of them.
This is a good arrangement for just ONE. The smallest you should have would be about half this size, but definitely nothing smaller.
And by the way - sex isn't "dirty". It's natural behaviour.

You should buy them a little strap-on. That would be so adorable!
