You must always test blood sugar, 2-4 hours after a meal?

You should test 2 hours after a meal ... unless you happen to be pregnant, in which case you test 1 hour after a meal and then again 2 hours after a meal.

Whatever your doctor recommends.
For type 1 diabetics, it is strongly recommended to test often. For type 2 diabetics who also use insulin for controlling their sugar levels, it is usually recommended to test a little more often. For type 2 diabetics who use pills to control their sugar levels, they may be able to test less often, especially if they are in good control.Testing at two hours after a meal is the usual time frame to know if what you ate caused too high of a sugar spike. At two hours after a meal, you would know if your body was able to lower the sugar levels back into a normal range or not.Waiting 4 hours is TOO LONG to actually learn anything about how your body handled what you ate.
