points when you reach a certain amount gets you to the next level as you level up you can contribute more to the site each levels has restrictions on what you can and can not do such as how many questions you can ask and answer points have no money value towards them and there are no actual prizes learn more about points and levels here http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system

In short.........the point system once had a point............

that was ages ago.........before umpteen changes to the format.

These days, there is zero difference between level 4 and level 7.........the OLD point system has been rendered meaningless. ...and they haven't adjusted it since the all the recent changes.

The levels are an incentive to ask and answer more questions. As an example:

Level 1 can ask 5 questions and answer 20

Level 2 can ask 10 questions and answer 80

Level 3 can ask 15 questions and answer 120

Level 4 to level 7 can ask 20 questions and answer 160

To motivate you to participate in the YA digital community by answering more questions than you ask so you you get exposed to more advertising. YA makes money for Verizon Yahoo by selling advertising space on YA so Verizon's stockholders and investors make money.

No one is forcing you to participate on YA. Verizon wants your business.

There is no point. Level 7 is just the same as being on level 4 now.

There was a time years ago where each level had an added benefit.
