What is this mussel called?

It is like a mussel from the sea but it's shell is fleshly. It's shell is smooth black skin like and can bleed if you scrap it.

If you pull on the 'shells' it would likely break them. And inside of the mussel it looks like a mouth. It's smooth black skin turns into a pinkish color.

Someone said that she was opening them to find pearls inside of them.

What kind of mussels are these called?
