If Latin American migrants could prove there's a threat to them, we could help eliminate that threat. If they can not, we should reserve...?

real and very costly asylum to those in genuine need around the world.

What is the logic in simply opening the floodgates when these people could very well be looking for a massive boost in wages and nothing else

Don't forget that only 4% of illegal migrants, and 11% of legal ones, from Latin America, identify as Republican.

You are right that doing more to eliminate the problems in countries such as Guatemala and Honduras would be a good approach to reducing the need for asylum. Why don't you suggest that to your Republican legislators, who only think in terms of punishment after the fact, not prevention.

Our job is not to CAUSE problems there. To eliminate problems in any country is the job of THAT country.
