Life is the source of all meaning, the source of all purpose, and the source of all ability. The dead know nothing, want nothing, and do nothing.

Meaning and purpose exist within the mind. From birth to death, the main (if not sole) occupation of the thinking parts of all brains is to determine the meaning of all the information that sensory organs provide. A single brief sound might mean that it's time to take your chocolate chip cookies out of the oven. Life is a lifelong series of making determinations about the meaning of every sensory impulse, and based on those determinations, choosing not to act, or choosing in which way to act. Many of those stimuli and reactions become so routine as to sink into the subconscious. Each little determination of meaning coupled with it's reaction, in series, builds and adds up to a lifetime of deeper understanding and accomplishment. Life means something to you; it's your understanding of everything that, one life, yours or another's, or all life, has known or accomplished. Each one of us has a unique perspective, a unique set of stimuli, a unique set of abilities, a unique set of determinations of meaning, a unique set of purposes for which we have chosen to act, and a unique set of results. Each one of us determines the meaning of everything within our own minds, but Life is the meaning of a million or a billion little things combined. No wonder people ask. No wonder people abbreviate. It's complex.

This is the most important question to which the answer is not simple, because everyone is different and therefore any specific answer can not fit or suit all.

Generally speaking, the meaning of life lies in whatever one wants and wishes for utmost on a sustaining longer term basis.... this has to be identified by each individual for himself and sincerely work towards this without hesitation, confusion or laziness. The ultimate purpose is highest level of self-satisfaction and consequent happiness on a sustained basis.

    There are two basic options:

God Is, and your immortal soul personality is an opportunity.

Or, somehow there is something, and making the best of the hand you've been dealt is optimal, rational.

Pascal's Wager is: if God Is, then your basic behavior, for infinite gain for a finite effort, is: Love God completely, love colleague as Self, and love as Christ Jesus, loves; if God is not, giving love completely unto a pure Love is self-reinforcing, betters yourself and your harmony and love, and promotes your social grace and well-being.

It is a generally accepted fact among both religious and agnostic (atheism being illogical, as claiming to know a Transcendent God necessarily lacks sufficient evidence re Transcendence) that focus and investing energy causes effects: in God-speak, materialism only engrosses the awareness.
