Isn’t it ironic that some electric car charging stations are powered by generators running on diesel?

    Not really.  High efficiency, constant power low sulfur diesel is still lower emission/lower polluting than an impulse/acceleration demand individual engine.  Que comparison to city bus versus coal locomotive.  So if the concern is travel continuity along lower population corridors, then the net effect is still beneficial.
