why sometimes on cd albums of old music, they don't put the original tracks on it?

the original songs? like i was recently listening to the greatest hits of harold melvin and the blue notes on cd album, and a few of the songs on the cd, like ' the love i lost' and ' don't leave me this way', they sounded like altered versions of the original songs, not the original versions?

why do manufacturers do this sometimes with music cds?

They remix many cuts from the master tapes, but in doing so sometimes change the levels of different instruments or background vocals. None of us who remember the originals like it much. New and younger fans don't always know the music and I have a hunch the people remixing the tunes don't either.

People would feel it to be redundant. Even on something that is just a compilation, people want to hear something new or at least hear something that is old but slightly changed.

Got to please everyone. Otherwise you lose potential fans.
