If that is a point-and-shoot camera with no aperture control then there's no straight-forward way of doing it.

What you can do (if controls are lacking) is to use presets. Portrait mode will use a large aperture size to allow blurring of backgrounds (although not much effective in doing so). Night mode will also do with the added effect of slower shutter speeds.

Put the camera into aperture priority.  The camera has an aperture range of just 3 stops, which isn't a whole lot but it is something; certainly not anything like the 7-8 stops you get with a mirrorless or DSLR.

Download the manual for your S9400W and do a keyword search for "aperture priority" to find the part that explains how to set and adjust your camera.  Do yourself a huge favor and read the manual cover to cover at least once a year so that you'll know how to use the camera to get the best shots that you can with what you have when you need to.
