Flowers are usual, no food, they may be on a special diet, and a nice get well card.

Don't make her any kind of dishes or meals. She's had an abdominal operation, and she might be on a restricted or "soft food' diet for several days.

Send, do not take, her a potted plant. If you go, she will feel obligated to have a conversation no matter how bad she feels.

Unless your coworker is a close friend, or relative, you shouldn't disturb her at all. She just had surgery, and is probably too zoned out on morphine & feeling like crap & would hate anybody from work to see her that way. But, you could send her a card &/or a small plant or something from the hospital's gift shop. Wait until she's out of the hospital to give her any gifts in person. And always call first.

Flowers or plants are traditional. I suggest a gift card to a favorite restaurant. Your coworker can get a take out meal to enjoy while at home recuperating. Include a card saying he/she is missed and you hope for a speedy recovery.

You co-worker may or may not be able to enjoy a take-out meal while she's at home recuperating. She's just had abdominal surgery, and she could be on a restricted or "soft" diet for over a week.

    you could take some flowers

If they are welcoming visitors, you could bring them their favorite current issue of a magazine, a good book to read or a puzzle book, a small stuffed animal,  or a bouquet of balloons that state get well soon.  Flowers or treats can be good too.  Of course, this would be for a co-worker who is also a friend.  If just a co-worker, then wait until they are out of the hospital and give them a huge gift card that all the employees have signed

Don't bring someone who is still in the hospital after having their appendix removed any treats or anything else edible. Very often, a person who's had abdominal surgery is on a restricted diet for several days and there are some foods he can not eat. Bring him a good book to read instead.

Send a get-well card with a paperback book of cartoons.  Don't drop in in person; leave your gift at the nurses' station with a note showing which patient it's for.  When people have just had surgery, they're usually not well enough to receive a lot of visitors.

Your gift will be appreciated just as much as if you had visited in person.

Gift your coworker a "get well" card or a box of chocolates from Sees Candies with a "get well" card.

No chocolates. She's just had her appendix removed, and she wouldn't be allowed to eat chocolates.

You mind your own business unless they say they want visitors. Don’t invite yourself to see them unless asked.

If they allow visitors you can arrange a get well soon card from ALL coworkers.

A gift depends on the coworker: flowers, chocolate, fruit, cookies, candy, gift voucher.

Sick people do not need nosy coworkers visiting them!

No chocolate, fruit, cookies, or candy - not for someone who's just had their appendix removed.
