Why don't people realize this?

Everyone says that a certain decade was when music was the best and then after music went downhill, but for some reason that's always the decade they grew up in. I've heard oldish people say that the 80s were when music went downhill, but at the same time I hear younger people say that the 2000s were the "good old days" of music and then after that music went "downhill". How do people not realize that they are only saying these things because of nostalgia??
