I understand my lecturer made it into a triangle. But how did he decide which side of the triangle was A, B OR C? How did he work out the..?

force going along the bottom line was 6kN when it was the top line of the triangle on the opposite side stated as being 6kN?

    It doesn't matter with the location with A , B , C

    the lecturer should have made a parallelogram with the sides 6 & 2 N....the resultant is the sum of the 2 vectors given ; v_2 = 2 < 1 / √2 , -1 /√2 > and v_6 = 6 < - 1 / 2 , -√ 3 / 2 >....the magnitude of this is the same as the other diagonal in the parallelogram...{ this became the triangle shown }....the angle between v_2 and v_6 is 180 - 60 - 45 = 75...this is the angle opposite the 2nd diagonal , label it C ....the diagonal is the ' c ' in the formula being used
