why do women suffer from depression more than men. What do they have to feel depressed about so much?

could this have something to do with the biological facts of women being physically and mentally weaker? Thus just more prone to be depressed over something

I think you'll find that it's men who are suffering with mental health, just as much as women, if not slightly more than women. Men commit suicide more, possibly because mental health is still considered as a 'weakness', even though it's actually an illness and most forms of Depression, can not be controlled, by yourself, but with Professional help or Medication.

Countless people suffer with SAD (seasonal adjustment disorder), lack of sunshine can lead to a mild form of depression, best way to treat it, is to spend as much time outside every day, as possible.

Some people lack vitamins and minerals in their diet, which can affect their moods. Some people are constantly stressed at work/home etc..

Is that why men are killing themselves at 4 times the rate of women.

    Those men seem depressed

Men simply do not self diagnose and / or seek help / advice to the same degree women do.

Your second question shows you do not understand what depression is. It's a chemical insufficiency in the brain, not a temper tantrum. Do you ever ask what does that guy have to be diabetic about? No, of course not. It's just an illness, like any other illness.

I think women have quite difficult lives these days...years of feminism seem not to have done them much good. Saw a programme on PUA's the other day....jeeze, those guys were accosting girls in department stores to hone their 'skills'....if I had been one of these girls I would have told these cheeky Barstewards to 'F' off ! But the girls were just so sweet and polite....but they were not happy with the experience. Then there is porn. Something like 83% of the most popular porn downloads feature violence against women. Exactly, that attitude must be rolling out into wider society. But no one seems to want to talk about that...even feminists. Something tells me life ain't a walk in the park for modern women.

There's a phenomenon called depressive realism, where people who are depressed are more in touch with certain aspects of reality such as their lack of control over their circumstances than people who aren't. Since women have less control over our circumstances than men, we're more likely to be depressed. It's very simple.

I am uncertain that women *do* experience depression at higher rates than men.

They are more likely to self report, more likely to seek talking therapy with a feminist infused 'helping' profession, more likely to seek drugs... but the large disparity in suicide rates, societal 'drop out', alcoholism etc between men and women at least calls into question the basic idea that women have more depression and other related MH issues than men do.

'Attempt' or demonstrate? Attention seeking may not be the same as depression, and is certainly not identical to committing suicide.

Also while dropping out can have multiple causes, a person who has fallen out of society may find their life to be limiting, bleak and depressing.

women experience much more fluctuation in hormone levels that are associated with symptoms of depression. during menopause depression is also common. before i start my period i always feel so depressed and low about everything in life, but then once i have my period the feeling goes away.

And you're different from the manhaters here who post stupid babble about "inherent" evils or weaknesses of men, in order to make their male readers feel bad, you're different from them... um... HOW, exactly?

Gender bigots of ALL types are invariably stupid, as well as being as crazy as a shlthouse rat.

You womanhaters and manbashers are just MORE evidence of the crying need for nationalizing the medical industry in the U.S., PARTICULARLY the psychiatric sector.

It's VERY simple, no deep thinking is required here -- gender-bashing is NUTS, and if you push that crap, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU.

    • Of course a reasonable answer like this gets 3 thumbs down. You talk sense
