Would a planet with a 50 degree tilt sustain complex life?

Possibly... depending on many things - distance from it's star, the type of star, how thick the atmosphere is, etc.

Humans at least would have to Adapt
For everything else, it would be a case of Adapt or die

There is a simulator called Universe Sandbox. There you can alter planets, the sun and much more in all sorts of ways. Try your theory there, and see what happens.
