Your gums should hurt about up to 4 or 5 days after extraction. You can use pain meds and alternate cold and hot packs, there's also some stuff I always use for tooth aches, it's called orajell, it's OTC and about $8. . If its very painful after day 4 call your dentist

The socket hurts not the tooth. It's normal, take painkillers.

It shouldn't be hurting right after the extraction, the drugs the dentist is suppose to give you to numb the pain should still be in effect.

Pain relievers and sleep. Avoid drinking cold liquids and eat only soft foods. If over the counter pain relief does not work, contact your dentist for a prescribed pain medication
