Why isn't Java compiled to machine code?

    Java code gets compiled into byte code, which is executed on the Java Virtual Machine.

    A script language like a high level language. make it transportable across many platforms, reduces(compiles) the source to assembly level on certain platforms.

    Assemblers(assemble to specific machine code) are processor family specific to a given processor or controller.
