Why do people say they can see things out of the corner of their eye when an eye is round and has no corners?

They mean their peripheral vision. The part of the eye which sees peripheral vision contains more rod cells than cone cells so it's better at detecting motion rather than detail.

They're the ones that watch too much TV and end up with a condition known as "Rectangular eye" hence the corner of their eye.

They are talking about their peripheral vision , but call it the corner of their eye . Pretty uninteresting really .
