Shouldn't it be illegal for American companies like Facebook, Paramount, or the NBA to be censoring Americans just to make money overseas?

Censoring can be OK when we need to prevent right-wingers or foreigners from defaming/confusing people during elections, but there's a serious weak point in free speech when American companies are censoring speech or art just to make money from China.

No. They're private companies. If you don't like them, don't use them. Should Target be forced to put up advertising for Walmart?

You either like censorship or you don't. Did you really think it would only be done to people you don't like?

Private companies can do what they like.  They are not the government and they CAN engage in censorship on their platforms.

What I object to is the opaqueness of their rules for said censorship.  If their policy is to deplatform conservatives (and it's pretty obvious that it is even though they don't admit it) then by withholding that truth, consumers don't have relevant information with which to make their decision.  If Facebook and others openly said "Conservative ideas will be grounds for banning", that is their call.  And their user base can choose a different platform.

The NBA and Blizzard/Activision deals were a bit different.  In those cases the consumers of those products just need to choose whether they want to support a company that so casually sells out the cause of freedom for the people of Hong Kong.  But at least there's no trickery involved.  The NBA and B/A pretty blatantly showed their colors.

America has a free press to censor - either Democrat loons or geese or both.

Source(s): Facebook, Paramount, and the NBA are media companies and have American press rights.

You are getting confused. When did the NBA censor a private citizen? Getting upset with a team General Manager who cost them a ton of money is business. Pretty much anybody who makes a public statement costing their business millions will be looking for a new job.

A CNN anchor had a microphone snatched out of her hand for asking NBA athletes about censorship, and the athletes were forbidden from answering.
