Fairfax CA for up to a year or so as preferred. Evanston IL has too cold a winter and too much tension among people. Evanston is a lower cost of living, but neither is long term suitable for a surburb-city person like me who prefers sunshine and no frigid cold weather. Fairfax is a small town center with entended area around it with mountains and greenery and shows to be a friendly place. It looks like a nice place to visit. The Evanston suburb of Chicago next to Skokie can be a socio-political hotbed. There are far worse places than either of these, but neither fits me well.

Fairfax is safer, and that counts a lot.

Fairfax median value home is over $900,000 and Evanston closer to $400,000

I found a nice gated and guarded central community in Las Vegas and that meets

my needs better than either of the two in the question. I'm only concerned about Climate change in summer and possible extended droughts.

I would choose Fairfax in a heartbeat. Much closer to where I already am.

Fairfax, California because it has a small population and isn't near a major city. Evanston is right next to Chicago.

I agree, Fairfax is a bit isolated for being so close to SF.

    Whichever is convenient with benefits.

I'm from California, know my way around and the ins and outs of everything.

    Illi', is not my scene.

I'll pick California, just for the terrain alone.
