People are conformists. Everything we do we do it because we want to be liked. People want to conform to what majority of people like in order for them to be liked back. If most people like tall people, you would want to be tall in order to be liked. Trends happen when a small group of people like something, then other people see the first group liking it, and they join in, eventually a significant number of people like it, and now other people want to join in because they like liking it will make them liked. And this is how trends start. It's like a tsunami of conformity. Wave after wave after wave pile on to form a big wave, which then attracts even more people simply because it's big.
