In a country with socialism, what features would you expect to see as an American?

I expect something like what Israel has. Universal healthcare system, for example.

    1. Bad medical care,

    2. Lack of needed medicines,

    3. Waiting in long lines for medical, being lucky if you actually get good medical care,

4 .Light bulbs in the hospital rooms,

5 .Medical staff who actually get paid enough and have enough real education to take care of you such as the nursing staff.

    6. Bread Lines, The rich Getting richer and the poor getting poorer,

7.Poverty on a almost complete level,

    8. More corrupt politicians,

9.More corrupt and cooked police taking bribes to let you go. etc... etc... etc...

There are currently only four nations that use a Marxist system of governance so I'd expect to see the features prominent in those countries.

The kinds of things I see when I visit countries with socialism like Japan, most of Western Europe, and Australia - universal healthcare, strong public transportation infrastructure, social safety net, very few homeless people.

Massive inflation, decreasing product and service quality, inability to compete globally, re-education (concentration) camps, fat/rich dictators, and massive poverty. For example, look at conditions in Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea. Look at the history of the USSR.

A stagnant, if not destroyed, economy. Development of cutting edge technology grinding to a halt.

Define the style of socialism that you're referring to.

"Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterized by social ownership of the means of production and workers' self-management, as well as the political theories and movements associated with them. Social ownership can be public, collective or cooperative ownership, or citizen ownership of equity.

There are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them, with social ownership being the common element shared by its various forms."
