Hypothetically, does trump need permission from musicians to play they music while asking for donations?

    Yes, he does need permission, AND pay royalties.

    His campaign has to pay royalties to use copyrighted music. He does not need to ask permission.

    With that said. an artist can ask that their music not be used by someone.

    Politicians and others have been forced by the courts to stop using certain music

    Not unless he is selling it etc.. HE can legally play what he wants to.. maybe you can do a noise complaint and have it turned down if you do not like it.

    How about asking ALL STORES ETC. to pay royalties on their in store music on in elevator music.. There is a different called FOR PROFIT... AND NOT FOR PROFIT..

    If he buys their music, then it's his and he can play it wherever the h3ll he wants to.

    If they music is in the public domain and he is not charging for it then no. Since his rallies are free to attend then it is unlikely an infringement argument could be won. In reality it is just free advertising for the musician.

    If the copyright is still extant, then yes - he does!

    Trump will attempt to steal anything that isn't nailed down it seems!

    Yes. Copyright law applies against the President and everybody else.
