EPCOT is part of Disney World. Disney World has 4 parks - Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom is the park with the castle and has the most attractions - it's the typical "Disney" experience. EPCOT is a more science and education based park - it has attractions focused on technology, space, earth science, oceans, etc. The attractions are great, and there are some good rides, but rides are not the center of that park. EPCOT also has the World Showcase, with attractions and restaurants representing a number of countries from around the world - it's a lot of fun to explore. Hollywood Studios is movie-themed, and has the new Toy Story and Star Wars areas, making it espeically busy in recent months. Animal Kingdom has a safari ride and some other animal exhibits, plus the Pandora attractions.

I always suggest allowing at least one full day in each park, but Magic Kingdom can easily take 2+ days. And if you want to check out everything at EPCOT, it's also a 1.5-2 day park. If you want to see everything AND do the new attractions at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, then you might also need some extra time in those parks.

The Park Hopper ticket allows you to visit more than one park in a day, so that can be nice if you want to split some days between parks to get in a little extra at a few of them.

While the parks are not close (I saw you reference this in your other question), there is excellent transportation in Disney World.

Disney is getting ready to give Epcot a major make-over, so that may be a drawback.

"Epcot Center" was what Epcot was called in its glory years when it first opened. There really isn't much there now in Epcot other than the World Showcase. The rest of the park has aged poorly over the last 30 years, with some "updates" (and closures) that are considered inferior to what was originally there.

Very popular, thus very busy - huge crowds.
