I took my troubles down to madame ruth

you know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth

she's got a pad down on thirty-fourth and vine

sellin' little bottles of love potion number nine

I told her that i was a flop with chics

i've been this way since 1956

she looked at my palm and she made a magic sign

she said "what you need is love potion number nine"

She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink

she said "i'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"

it smelled like turpentine, it looked like indian ink

i held my nose, i closed my eyes, i took a drink

I didn't know if it was day or night

i started kissin' everything in sight

but when i kissed a cop down on thirty-fourth and vine

he broke my little bottle of love potion number nine

Witchcraft yes, magic (black or white) no.

Witchcraft is the religion / philosophy / whatever that witches adhere to, which means it's as real as Christianity or atheism or any other belief. If someone believes in it, it's a real belief. That doesn't make it a real thing, just a real belief. I've dated, almost married and just plain slept with several witches, so I know they're real.

As for the magic, hell no. Every time witches are asked to prove their magic is real, their answer is always "magic doesn't work like that" followed by "it's complicated, you wouldn't understand" if questioned further. That sounds awfully similar to "the lord works in mysterious ways, it's not for us to question him", doesn't it? Yes it does, because both beliefs work the exact same way.

I've even had magic spells cast upon me, really powerful spells by really powerful witches (they said so themselves), so I've seen it up close and personal. Yet here I am, not hopelessly in love with the girlfriend who cheated and dumped me and wanted me back. And I've still got my.... well let's just say the spell was cast to make it shrivel up and fall off, but it's still here hanging around doing nothing. That one was from an authentic Nigerian sorcerer, and even it didn't work. At least not yet.

If the armed forces recognize witches and updated their chaplain's book in 1978, so why wouldn't you believe in them now?

All magic works within nature's parameters. There is no good or bad magic, just like there's no good or bad electricity. It's the USE it's put to that the 'black' or 'white' pertains to.
