Each airline has different carry-on dimensions (some are the same as others, though). Which size should I buy?

Assuming you use a range of airlines, isn't it common sense to buy the size that's approved on the cheapest airlines, ie the smallest size?

No airline has ever actually measured my carry-on bag. It just has to fit in the overhead storage compartment.
It has been decades since a major airline weighed my carry-on bag.

Either go by the smallest allowed dimensions, or the allowed dimensions of the airline you use the most.
Most airlines are around 22x14x9 for carry-on bags, but there is certainly some variation. The discount carriers are especially likely to measure so be very careful if you typically use them (Allegiant, Spirit, Frontier, etc).

I would follow up the airline you use the most.

The smallest one. It will fit all airlines

The over all standard is 22" long x 14" wide and 9" deep. If you get a bag on those standards or slight smaller, you'll be fine. Just be sure not to over stuff it

i would ask your airline about it
