Whats graphics card is the best graphics card in a 500 dollar range ?
I am upgrading my graphics card from a GeForce GTX 980 and I got a budget in the 500 dollar range what would be the best graphics card in that range.

A good upgrade for the GTX 980 would be a EVGA - GeForce RTX 2070 XC Ultra Gaming 8GB or the RTX 2080 if you want to spend some extra money. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get the RTX 2080 for around $500 on black friday so keep an eye out for sales. Refurbished is already in the ballpark for the RTX 2080

A GTX980 is still towards the top of the range. Each new generation only really moves cards along about one "step" or so; the 980 is between the 1060 and 1070
There is nothing under $500 that really gives a really significant, worthwhile improvement.
I'd wait a while for prices of higher end cards to drop somewhat further and then look at a 1080ti or something around that.
Consider a better CPU / motherboard if you want an upgrade now; eg. a Ryzen 7 3800X is under $400 and its within a few percent of an i8-9920X at about $1200..
